So, today marks Day 5 of life-change. I’ve actually taken on the challenge of eating less for a little longer than that, but the official weigh-in happened Friday morning.
And if you’re looking for that information, well you’re just out of luck for now
.
I wanted to take a minute to journal a bit of what I’m experiencing early in my journey to health. First of all, starting this new journey on the first of December was bold, but I thought I had the courage to keep my convictions. I was dead wrong. Christmas party after Christmas party, I’ve used the excuses. Today was one of those, and boy was it a feast. One of the things I’m learning is that I’m not as disciplined as I think. I need work in that area.
I also started working out tonight. Most of you work out fairly regularly. For those of you who don’t, let me fill you in on a few things that mark us “non-gym-goers.”
1. We don’t like to go to the gym, which is why we don’t go.
2. We don’t hate exercise. We hate not belonging to the “gym club.” You may not think there’s one, but there is.
3. We hate being stared at.
4. We hate looking stupid when we don’t know how the system works.
5. We hate people knowing when we get off the treadmill too early.
There are more reasons, but I need to go to bed soon
.
Let me sum up the last 5 days in a few key points:
1. I need a new pair of running shoes in a bad way. I ran with a really old pair (which is all I have at the moment), and I feel like I broke my foot).
2. (I’m OK with saying that) I only ran .6 miles tonight. I only burned 50 calories. That’s my start, and that’s what I have to work from. You gotta start somewhere, right?
3. I still hate the gym. I always have. But that’s not going to stop me from reaching my goal.
4. Last, but not least, I’ve determined my target weight. I’ve got 77 pounds to lose. That’s no easy task, but I watched The Biggest Loser tonight. One dude on that show lost like 239 pounds. I can do this.
More updates soon…
You go boy!!!
Do they have a mens baskeball league at your church? Or better yet… Ultimate Frisbee!! Steven and I played UF every Wednesday night this summer and man did that help keep this old man in shape. Start it and they will come!!
.6 miles is good! I started running this past Feb for the 1st time since high school. First week we walked 2 min and ran 30 seconds for 30 min…..thought I was dying!!
10 weeks later could ran a 5K. Keep it up!
